The hotel grounds are kept clean, the cottages are surrounded by a beautiful park and forest, with clean air and birdsong. However, the hotel does not meet the level that is advertised. The hotel was advertised as having five restaurants, but in reality only one, serving Chinese cuisine, was open; everything else was closed, possibly due to the low season. However, this was not mentioned on Trip.com. The breakfast selection was very varied, but the food wasn't very tasty. We had a hard time choosing what to eat for breakfast. This hotel is suitable for people who are looking for peace and quiet. It's located a bit outside the city, about 10 km away, and you'll need to take a taxi every time you want to get to the city. The bathtub in the window is just amazing - you sit in your bath After a long day of hiking in relaxing atmosphere - it was truly a treat. The breakfast offered a decent selection of Chinese options, with noodles available on demand. Delicious home cooked food was available at lunch and dinner too. However, the true standout feature of Purespace is its proximity to a lesser-known gate of the national park. Located just a short and easy walk from the hotel is an entrance that seems to be favored by locals and those in the know. This proved to be an absolute game-changer for accessing the Bailong Elevator early in the morning. While the main entrance was often swarming with 000s of guests, this smaller gate offered a quick and easy entry into the park. I was able to reach the base of the Bailong Elevator well before the peak crowds, allowing for a swift ascent and uninterrupted views of the stunning karst formations. This local tip, saved me valuable time and significantly enhanced my overall experience of the park. Its proximity to the ”secret” gate leading to the Bailong Elevator early is an invaluable asset for those wanting to maximize their time and avoid the ilong queues. The room and swimming pool looked a bit nicer in the photos than in real life 👀. So we ended up not swimming. The only real issue we had was with the bathroom—after just one shower, the water overflowed and flooded the toilet area, and there didn’t seem to be proper drainage. We had to use a towel to keep the water from spreading too far. That said, the overall stay was good! The staff were kind and welcoming, breakfast was delicious, and the chef was so cheerful—it was a treat to see him proudly serving his freshly made noodles. The room was good and they cleaned it every day. Only underneath the bed it was dusty. The room had automatically opening curtains and airco. I would recommend this hotel. Free transfer from the train station and communication via WeChat was very helpful. Large room, although beds seem to be large single beds rather than double beds as per listing. This was still fine for our family of 3, we just pushed the beds together. Good breakfast, worth adding for the days we were up early for Tianmen and Zhangjiajie Forest Park. It ends at 9am though so we didn’t manage to go on the other 2 days when we were tired. The room was spotless and housekeeping came daily. There was a smell of smoke in the corridor (seems like smoking is allowed as there was also an ashtray in our room), thankfully no smell in our room. The spa was… interesting. Open 24 hours and with no spa menu, just phone translator used to tell us the price. My husband went for full body massage and got taken to a replica of our hotel room and massaged on the bed (no massage table) by a woman in a costume. If you’re a smoker, this place will be fine, but I’m not and I asked for a non-smoking room and the room smelt so badly. I tried using the air conditioner but that just churned out more Smokey air. Nothing I did helped. I ended up making a blanket fort and slept under it for both nights and barely stayed in the room. It was like being in a gas chamber. I would not recommend this to anyone who isn’t a smoker themselves.

2. Check-out is at 2 PM. We came back from Wulingyuan at 1 PM, and arrived at the hotel at 1:25 PM, tired and desperate for a rest. But then, our key card wouldn't open the door! We had to go back and forth with the front desk to sort it out. Oh well, it was already check-out time. My child had fallen asleep on me by then.

**Location:** Great location, right by the bus station. It's less than a 15-minute walk to the East Gate of the Forest Park (there's also a bus from the bus station that goes to the South Gate).

**Cleanliness:** The bedding was tidy, and the overall cleanliness was good. They also cleaned the room after check-in.

**Service:** The front desk staff were very enthusiastic and professional. They warmly greeted us, offered to help with the elevator, and provided recommendations for local attractions.

**Facilities:** The hotel facilities are quite old (no smart home features -0.2, no smart toilet -0.3, and even the TV can't screen mirror -0.3). Fortunately, there's an accessible elevator, and the energy equipment is decent.

**Comfort:** The hotel's design feels a bit dated, though the original renovation must have been very thoughtful. Staying here now feels like stepping back into the millennium. The soundproofing is very poor; every morning, before dawn, cars would honk their horns -0.2.

**Restaurant:** There's a restaurant here offering both Chinese and Western options. Breakfast includes noodles, but the coffee isn't very high-quality.

**Bonus Points:** No room upgrade, but late check-out until 1 PM is available +0.25.

The service was truly 5 star. The staff at the lodge are so kind, helpful and efficient. We got personalised itineraries each day that changed a lot based on the weather, which was quite mixed! I was very impressed by their efficiency and flexibility. Each day we were driven to and from the park gate (for free). Pickup was within a couple of mins of us messaging that we were ready to leave. All of the staff were wonderful, but Guo Pu was a standout from our trip. Not only did he cart us around and respond to any questions via WeChat within minutes, but he made sure we got the most out of our time there - he pulled fruit from fruit trees at the lodge for us to eat, showed us the various animals they keep onsite, and took photos of us at the sky mirror. He was really great at giving instructions for getting the best effects! (Photos attached)

The room was superb - lots of great features like a heated air function in the shower that was helpful for drying off wet clothes after we got caught in a downpour. The room is a rustic style and there’s a few places that could do with a lick of paint and tidying up, but this added more to the rustic charm! The view really was incredible.

The location of the lodge might first seem far from the action of the park, but trust me, this is a blessing in disguise! The park gets incredibly busy, especially around Yuanjiajie. The busyness really can ruin the natural beauty. Being close to the Westgate allows you to access the park from the most uncommon direction which is actually marvellous as it means you are less likely to get caught up in crowds and queues as you are travelling around the park in the opposite direction of the vast majority of the tourists. This really makes a difference and maximising the time that you have in the park. Because of the mixed weather, we ended up travelling most of the top sights in the park again on the single good weather day and this worked really well because of our direction of travel. The Westgate is much quieter and the surrounding area is much more peaceful than the busy area around the east gates. This allows you to really enjoy the peace and beauty of nature when you aren’t exploring the park.

When we went to the mountains, cleaning was done every day. there is everything you need. bathrobes, 2 types of slippers, towels, dental cleaning kits. Breakfast is 5/10, acceptable. There is also table tennis, billiards, a gym, everything is open late, and the gym is usually open around the clock, which is nice. There is also a mini market if you need to buy water or beer. We also bought a foot massager, we loved it! and the prices were reasonable.

On the downside, the pool wasn't working, they said it was closed and would open in the summer. I arrived after 11pm on my first night, and the owner was incredibly accommodating and made check-in easy despite the late hour. The following day, my room was fully booked, but he quickly found me another room and even helped move my bags over before I returned.

The owner genuinely cares about his guests and goes above and beyond to help. He assisted me with laundry, provided clear instructions for visiting the national park (which can be quite confusing without a good itinerary), and gave excellent local advice throughout my stay. He also helped me book both the National Park and Grand Canyon tickets at discounted prices.

Communication was never an issue thanks to translation apps, and he was always patient and helpful. At one point, he even spotted me walking, stopped on his electric bike, and gave me a lift back to the hotel. He also helped arrange transport to the train station.

The room had all the amenities you would expect, including toiletries such as toothbrushes, and there was a nice view from the property. The location is convenient - around a 15-minute walk from the main bridge and night lights area, and roughly a 10 minute drive from the East Gate of the park. The owner kindly offered to drop me off at the East Gate and pick me up afterwards, which made visiting the park much easier.

Overall, the hospitality here was outstanding. The owner goes out of his way to make sure guests are comfortable and have a great experience.
